The wife of the chief judicial magistrate of Gurgaon district court was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a park in the Police Lines complex around 7 on Wednesday evening.
“We are investigating the matter and would be able to say anything only after the post-mortem results come,” said commissioner of police Alok Mittal.
The body of 24-year-old Geetanjali bore two bullet injuries, said deputy commissioner of police (west) Surender Pal. The two gunshot wounds — one to the chin and the other to the chest — are believed to have been caused by a .32-bore pistol, which was also recovered from the spot.
Police sources said prima facie it looked to be a case of suicide as the pistol, manufactured at the ordnance factory in Kanpur, belongs to her husband Ravnit Garg.
Reportedly, Geetanjali had left their house in Friends Colony — a residential complex of state police officials — at around four in the evening for her usual evening walk. Later, her dead body was spotted by some children playing in the park, cops said.
Incidentally, the police commissioner’s residence is just a stone’s throw away from the murder spot. Several judges and their family members, including district and session judges, visited the crime spot.
