With the rapid growth in the density of population in Gurgaon’s urbanised villages, the nearby plush residential localities are facing severe power problem.

According to the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (DHBVN), load on the transformers have increased manifold over the past few years. The most affected posh colonies are around Nathupur village.

The village located along MG Road has DLF city phase III, Ambience Island and National Media Centre (NMC) in its vicinity.  “Though all the electricity connections are authorised, the load on the transformers has increased with the rise in population. This hampers the supply to other residential areas,” said Sanjeev Chopra, superintending engineer, DHBVN.

With the problem worsening day by day, the power distribution company has been planning to send notices to those residents, who are overusing electricity, to set up their own transformers.

“We are planning to send notices to all those houses that are overusing power. They will have to install their own transformers,” said Chopra.

But even with this surfacing as a solution, there arises another problem. In the highly urbanised villages such as Nathupur, Sikanderpur and Chakkarpur that are home to an average of one lakh population, space is a major constraint.

“In the past too, we had tried to upgrade the electricity infrastructure in order to withstand the load. We were also ready to install transformers, but there is no space in these villages,” said Rajesh Nandal, sub-divisional officer, DHBVN.

According to power officials, residents of private residential areas too don’t allow to build transformers within their societies.
