Hero Honda Chowk on the Gurgaon Expressway may soon get traffic signals before the construction of a recently approved flyover begins.
In a meeting held on Tuesday, Gurgaon divisional commissioner DPS Nagal directed the concerned officers of the NHAI, Huda, PWD and the MCG to fix a time line to complete development work at Hero Honda Chowk. Till then, the crossing will be opened for the convenience of the general public and traffic lights will be installed as soon as possible.
Nagal directed Gurgaon deputy commissioner, Shekhar Vidyarthi, to call a meeting with the expressway concessionaire and the NHAI within a week and get the traffic lights issue sorted at the earliest. Nagal After installation, Nagal said, the maintenance will be looked after by the Huda. “The concessionaire has been playing truant with respect to all maintenance work on the expressway. We will try to install traffic lights at Hero Honda Chowk at our own expense. But this will need a clearance from the headquarters,” an NHAI source told HT.
About 500 streetlights on NH-8 are also out of order, the top official was told during the meeting, and they need to be repaired by the expressway operator. Nagal also asked the concerned officers of the MCG to ensure that the sewage main holes were as high as the road so that traffic movement is not affected.
Later, Vidyarthi inspected the site from Hero Honda Chowk to the Kherki Daula. Industrial units that pour waste into drains along the expressway will be served notice by the MCG, he said.
