The health department has not registered a single dengue positive case in the last two weeks, thereby declaring the end of the vector-borne disease in the city.

After examining its last few samples, the department has put this year's final dengue count at 469, with one death, on Saturday. "We have completely stopped getting any dengue positive cases. The fever is almost over due to the winters," said Parveen Garg, chief medical officer.

But, the dengue menace of 2012 has been a unique and a chaotic experience, both for the hospitals as well as for the residents. The escalating count had reached one point when hospitals in the healthcare hub, both public and private, suffered from a bed shortage problem. The OPDs and emergencies were running out of beds, thereby making patients wait for a minimum of two days to seek admission.

With nearly 250 hospitals in and around Gurgaon, the city has an approximate bed capacity of one lakh.

Fresh guidelines
It seems the deputy commissioner of Gurgaon has woken up to the dengue menace a tad too late. After the dengue menace has reached its fag end, deputy commissioner PC Meena has issued directives to take preventive measures to curb the spread of the vector-borne diseases in the city.

In an order dated November 27, PC Meena instructed Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda), civic authority and other stakeholders to take necessary measures to prevent the spreading of dengue and malaria 0in the district.
