The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) will upgrade facilities at its cremation grounds and provide services and articles used for the last rites free of cost.

“The family of the dead should be treated with compassion. Please provide pyres and vehicles for carrying bodies free of cost,” financial commissioner, Town and
Country Planning (TCP), Haryana, told Huda officials during a meeting. The respective estate officers of Huda have been assigned to supervise the facilities at crematorium grounds under their jurisdiction.

Huda has been maintaining two crematoriums at sectors 22 and 23, whereas the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) runs 20 crematoriums, including cemeteries. The Senior Citizens Forum, Gurgaon, which manages a private cremation ground with the help of monetary contributions from its members, has welcomed the move.

“A family spends nearly Rs. 4-5 thousand for the cremation of the dead. We are glad that Huda has such plans,” said OP Sharma, member of the forum.

Huda is also constructing a funerary complex at the cost of Rs. 6 crore at Sector 52.
