The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) finally swung into action on the issue of sanitation calling the expression of interest (EOI) to improve cleanliness in the city.

“Six private companies have submitted their plans or EOIs. We hope that the sanitation tender will be floated in a week’s time,” said a senior Huda official.

Of the six companies, two are from Noida and for the first time, firms from outside Gurgaon have also applied for the tender, said the official.

Currently, sanitation in Huda sectors is being done on a temporary basis.

The new methodology may include enhancement of manpower by three times, introducing sweeping machines and increasing the number of vehicles such as dumpers, tractors and fully-covered rickshaws.

On March 31, the tender had expired and officials had been indecisive whether to introduce the machine mode of sweeping in sectors or not. The sanitation system in 58 sectors, barring private localities, has been hit.

Huda spends Rs. 56 lakh on sanitation every month. However, the contractors are short-staffed and unequipped.
