The Gurgaon Industrial Association (GIA) has come out in support of Manesar industrialists who have been asked to pay enhanced land cost charges of Rs. 1,300 crore following a Supreme Court order in 2010.

Bipul Bedi, honorary general secretary, GIA, termed the demand as "unreasonable".

He requested Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to consider GIA's plea to provide reprieve to the entrepreneurs who had got plots from HSIIDC in the early 1990s.

In a letter to Hooda, GIA apprised him of the challenges the industry had been facing due to economic slowdown and acute global competition.

The CM, however, expressed his inability to intervene as the cost is to be recovered under orders of the Supreme Court.
