A 16-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of a train on Sunday, the city police said.

The bodies were spotted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Monday morning.

The deceased, Class 9 student Kavita Singh and Balwant Kumar, are natives of Pithoragarh in Uttrakhand.

Both of them lived in a rented accommodation with their families in village Chakkarpur near DLF City Phase 1. Kumar worked with an LPG distribution agency in Udhyog Vihar as a complaint attendant.

Around 7am on Monday, the GRP received information about two bodies lying near the railway track.

According to the police, the duo wanted to get married but their family was not in favour. Kumar had been asked to stay away from the girl, police said.

The couple eloped on Sunday and their parents were looking for them.

Gurgaon GRP SHO, sub-inspector Jaiveer Singh, said, “We have handed over the bodies to the family members after post mortem.”
