A contempt of court petition has been moved against deputy commissioner of police (east) Maheshwar Dayal, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Ravinder Tomar and SHO of the Manesar police station Om Prakash in connection with the July 2012 Maruti violence case.
The petition moved by Sarabjeet Singh, one of the union leaders arrested for the violence at the automaker's Manesar plant, has alleged that despite a court order in October 2012, police officials did not get the arrested union leaders medically examined.
"My clients were tortured and thrashed in police custody. That's when we moved a petition for their regular medical examination. However, despite the court's order, it was not conducted," said Rajendra Pathak, the petitioner's lawyer.
The court of chief judicial magistrate Rajesh Sharma will hear the contempt petition on February 16.
The police had nabbed 99 workers on the intervening night of July 18-19 when the violence took place. All members of the then workers' union, who were arrested for inciting violence, have been named in the chargesheet.
The families of the workers have alleged that the police were using illegitimate ways of interrogation and playing into the hands of the Maruti Suzuki management.
