More than 500 sacked workers of Maruti Suzuki India Limited's (MSIL) Manesar plant, along with their family members, staged a protest in front of the Gurgaon deputy commissioner's office on Wednesday morning.

The police forcibly dispersed the agitating workers saying the group didn't have the required permission for the two-day hunger strike.

Police said the workers did not have proper permission for the protest which they got only later in the day on Wednesday.

After the Gurgaon police disrupted the protest, the agitating workers moved to the district court, leading to traffic snarls on the Sohna-Alwar road.

More than 30 protestors were also detained by the police. Though all of them were released later, union leaders alleged that two workers, Ram Vilas and Om Prakash, were still being questioned. The men are members of the Provisional Working Committee, a group formed by the sacked MSIL workers.

The workers have been allowed to protest till 4pm tomorrow in front of the DC's office. About 500 workers were sacked and about 150 were arrested after the July 18 arson the Manesar plant.
