The Gurgaon administration is all set to get a new building by mid-July for various department offices which are presently scattered across the city.

According to the current plan, the construction of the building — under the public works department (PWD) — started in July 2011 and the deadline for its completion is July 12 this year. “The construction is near completion and more than 90 per cent of the work is done. We are in a comfortable position to hand over the building for possession by the requisite deadline,” said NK Tomar, the executive engineer of PWD.

Tomar said that this extension of the mini secretariat, being constructed within the same premises, would house the labour and revenue departments.

Currently, the labour department has three offices, including one in the mini secretariat and two others at Civil Lines near Nehru Yuva Kendra.

The new building plan includes basement and six floors, including the ground floor. The first three floors have been assigned to the labour department and five labour courts have also been constructed for the same. The first floor has one court, one advocates’ area, nine staff rooms, two lifts and a toilet area. The other floors have also been constructed on a similar prototype. The third, fourth and fifth floors have been assigned for the revenue department offices.

Although the initial plans were to accommodate these two departments in the new building, it is subject to change. “The deputy commissioner (DC) can change the setup and decide to add or remove departments which will occupy the new building depending upon the requirement. It is upon the DC’s discretion only,” said Tomar. According to unofficial sources, the foreign registration office and some judges from the district court may also find space in the extension building.
