The drill was part of the fire services week organised every year as a tribute to the 800 people, including 66 gallant fire officials, who sacrificed their lives in different rescue operations.

Fire tenders were used for spraying water and mechanical foam in the complex.

The chiefs of both fire services, HC Sihag from DLF fire services and MS Bhardwaj of Gurgaon fire station Sector 29, provided valuable information on precautionary measures during a fire, using hydrant points, water sprinklers, and different types of water nozzles.

“Residents and the staff were explained in detail about the importance of emergency control methods for firefighting, rescue, first-aid, fire preparedness tips and procedure for evacuation during emergencies,” said DP Attri, the Estate Manager.

The Chief Fire Officers also told the people present during the drill on how to respond during a tragic calamity like the Bombay Victoria Dock Fire which occurred in 1944.

Senior manager of DLF fire and safety, HC Sihag, said, “Recently procured snorkels by DLF worth Rs. 20 crore were used to reach the roof of the Hamilton Court building as part of the demonstration. These snorkels can reach as high as 100m to extinguish fires.”

“We had a fire safety exhibition on Wednesday displaying various firefighting and safety equipment. Instructions on safety precautions were explained through posters. About 50 residents were present for the demonstration where leaflets were distributed to all,” said SK Dutta, executive member of the condominium and organiser of the fire week at Hamilton court.
