The newly-appointed commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), PC Meena, who assumed office here on Monday, said that the integrated functioning of the city's drainage infrastructure was one of his priorities as the civic body's new chief.

Meena, who held a meeting with the heads of departments of the MCG, said that his foremost goal would be to assess the status of all key ongoing projects in a week's time and then take forward the action plan for the functions of the civic body, including planning for future projects.

The tackling of the city's civic deficiencies — with drainage being one of the most pertinent — would be successful with the MCG, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) working concurrently, the commissioner said.

"An effective drainage system is a priority issue for the city at this stage. The three departments (MCG, Huda and DTCP) cannot work in isolation as different sectors fall under each of these departments and the execution of the integrated drainage mechanism is definitely high on my list of priorities," said Meena, the seventh commissioner to head the MCG.

The impending issues plaguing the Millennium City's civic infrastructure would be assessed afresh before any new projects were taken up, he added.

The commissioner also stressed on speedy execution of all projects undertaken during the tenures of the six former commissioners and directed the officials to ensure that no public application/grievance is kept pending without reason.
