A police officer was injured after three motorcycle-borne assailants shot at him outside his house in Kanhai village near Sector 46 on Sunday morning. The police suspect "family feud" to be the cause of the attack.

Bhupinder Singh, an assistant sub inspector (ASI) with the state vigilance bureau, took a bullet in his hand and is reportedly out of danger at a private hospital.

The police have booked Bhupinder's brother Durgesh Yadav, currently in jail, for plotting the attack by hiring professional killers.

The police have also booked Bhupinder's sister-in-law Bharti, Anoop (Durgesh's brother-in-law) and three unidentified assailants for the attack.

Bhupinder, 46, was getting into his car at 9.30am on Sunday morning when the three men on the bike shot at him and sped away. Some passersby informed the police and a team of Sector 40 police station took Bhupinder's statement.

Bhupinder told the police that Durgesh had hired the shooters from inside the jail.

Durgesh had killed his younger brother and injured his nephew on May 27 last year, following which he was arrested and subsequently jailed.

"We have registered a case against the victim's brother and five more people, including the three unknown men," said inspector Vikash Kaushik, station house officer at Sector 40 police station.
