The proposed protest by the Manesar Industries Welfare Association (MIWA) on Friday over the issue of payment of land enhancement has been postponed after the district administration imposed Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting any procession or protest to be held. The move will be in effect till November 14. "We have postponed the protest in the wake of the orders," said Amina Shervani, founder member of MIWA.
"More than 250 members had confirmed their participation for the protest, while assuring a gathering of over 10,000 persons. I'm sure with the active participation of the remaining 150 members, we would have been able to garner the support of 20,000 people," said Shervani.
The compensation has been raised by the Supreme Court from R4 lakh per acre to R20 lakh per acre.
The issue is brewing into a major bone of contention between the industrialists and the township promoter, the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
Though the HSIIDC has begun releasing money in the wake of the SC order, it has simultaneously been asking industrialists to pay up as according to the buyer-seller agreement between the industrialists and HSIIDC, the enhancement costs have to be borne by the plot owners.
Industrialists, however, say HSIIDC should foot the enhanced cost and not burden the plot owners.
