To ease bottlenecks at the busy Signature Tower crossing, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) will soon hire a private consultant to carry out a feasibility study.
"The consultancy will prepare a feasibility report to find a solution for the daily traffic snarls at the crossing. We have called bids for the same," said BS Singroha, chief engineer, MCG.
MCG commissioner Vijay Singh Dahiya held a meeting with consultants in this regard recently. The civic body hopes to complete the formalities of hiring a consultant in a week's time to complete the report in about 30 days. Once the project plan is approved, the MCG would proceed to acquire land for the purpose. In a meeting earlier, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) had agreed to share their portions of land for the proposed underpass.
The crossing on the Gurgaon Expressway witnesses heavy vehicular movement since it is also used by trailer trucks that ferry cars from the Maruti Suzuki factory in Manesar. On an average, motorists coming from Fortis Hospital and going towards Delhi on the expressway have to wait for at least 15-20 minutes at the crossing.
Similarly, traffic snarls are common on the stretch between Atul Kataria Chowk and Signature Tower, and the stretch between Iffco Chowk and Rajiv Chowk.
As a short term de-congestion measure, the Huda has built two slip roads at this crossing.
As part of preliminary discussions, it had been decided that traffic congestion on the route from the Huda City Centre Metro station towards Signature Tower, and further right towards Delhi through Iffco Chowk, needs to be addressed on a priority basis.
"About 70% traffic that comes from Huda City Centre turns right at Signature Tower to go to Delhi via Iffco Chowk. The underpass, which can be built in an L shape, would give them a free passage," said Kunal Mathur, who works with Tarun C Mathur & Associate, a consultancy.
