In order to ensure safety for women commuters, the police on Friday set up women help desk in all five Metro stations in Gurgaon.

According to the police, three women constables would be deployed at each desk.

The step was taken in the wake of a recent robbery case in which a 25-year-old woman was robbed of her ATM card at Sikandarpur Metro station after being sprayed with a chemical substance on her face. The victim also faced a lot of difficulty in registering her complaint.

"The jurisdiction will not be a concern for the commuters. All they have to do is to call the station house officer whose mobile number (8130990038) is displayed in all help desks. They need not dial the police control room (100) or the woman helpline number (1091) for any assistance," said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (east).

The police officer said registering a complaint would not be a problem now. "The complaints would be registered then and there itself. No victim will have to run around for getting her complaint lodged. It is the responsibility of the SHO to investigate the case and make sure the victim is heard," he added.

Inspector Narender Khatana, SHO, Metro stations, said, "I did not receive a single call today. We will carry out patrolling throughout the day and our presence will be felt now on."
