Five people were killed and 35 others were injured in two separate incidents of militancy violence in Karbi Anglong hills district of Assam on Tuesday morning. Militants of  KLNLF ( Karbi Longri National Liberation Front) were the main suspects for the both the incidents. Suspected
militants triggered a powerful blast inside a second-class coach ( No. 8209) of  Up 901 Lumding- Tinsukia passenger train at the Diphu railway station at 8.10 am. Two people died on the spot and another succumbed to his injuries on the way to Diphu civil hospital. 35 others were injured in the blast.

Three deceased were identified as Kamal Singh Teron (26 years), Raj Debnath ( 35 years) and Ratul Dhan ( 7 years). Six seriously injured people were shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital and four to Dimapur military hospital in Nagaland.

" The bomb was kept at the upper berth of a coach of the train. A timer device was found from the blast spot. We suspect the blast is a handiwork of KLNLF", said Krishna Kanta Sarma, SP of Karbi Anglong.

Sarma said that the KLNLF militant outfit had given an indefinite call for economic blockade in the district which begun from Tuesday morning. On Monday, the outfit observed 12 hours Karbi Anglong bandh.

In another incident, two motorcycle borne militants with AK -47 rifle shot dead two Hindi speaking people at the Dolamora village under Barpathar police station in the district at 10.30 am. The victims were identified as Ram Kumar Sonar and his wife.

In 2007, it was the Dolamora village in the district where militant of  KLNLF gunned down family members of  four sugar cane farmers.

At Dokmoka in the district, one live bomb was found at the Mandal Congress office and another at Dokmoka railway station's passenger room. Later Army personnel defused both the bombs.

The district administration expecting violence by KLNLF during the time of economic blockade made elaborate security arrangement in the hills district. The economic blockade call was given to press the militant outfit's 10 points demand.

KLNLF is a militant outfit mostly active in the Karbi Anglong hills district whose all members are Karbi tribal. The outfit expressed ceasefire with Govt and contacted respective officials of both state and Central Govt. The outfit has close links with Ulfa and with its support Ulfa had set up camps in Sinhasana hills in the district. The hills districts' geographical terrain is difficult for security personnel to flush out militants.
