The Arunachal Pradesh government has ordered a probe into the alleged abduction and subsequent release of senior Congress minister Chowna Mein. "The government has not been made aware of any such incident (abduction) by the minister. However, on his claim, the government has ordered a
detailed probe into the incident and the motive behind such claim," said government spokesman Setong Sena on Thursday. He added: "Appropriate steps would be initiated against those found guilty."

Mein had reportedly claimed that he was abducted by miscreants while on his evening walk on September 26 and taken to chief minister Jarbom Gamlin's official residence in Itanagar. He also asserted that other ministers and MLAs were mysteriously in that residence.

Gamlin, who took over after Dorjee Khandu after he died in a helicopter crash on April 30, does not stay in the CM's official residence.

"The minister should have filed an FIR in the nearest police station so that prompt action could have been taken," said a communique from the CM's office on Thursday.
