Derogatory comments about girls of the Ahom community on social networking site Facebook allegedly by a journalist have sparked tension in Assam. On Thursday, two Ahom youth bodies called for a 12-hour Assam bandh.

The bandh hit normal life in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Golaghat districts. All school and colleges were closed, shops were shut and sporadic incidents of violence were reported in these districts.

The journalist, Atanu Bhuyan, editor-in-chief of News Live, a private local satellite channel, however, said someone had hacked into his Facebook account.
