Voting for the 60-member Tripura assembly on Thursday crossed 93% with election officials receiving more than 37,000 of the 38,000 postal ballots issued. The figure is the highest for any state in India.

A spokesperson for Tripura chief electoral officer Ashutosh Jindal on Friday said 91.94% of the state’s 2,353,505 voters cast their votes on Thursday.

“Voting in some booths continued till 10pm yesterday (Thursday) due to the heavy rush,” he said.

With an estimated 1.5% postal ballots received, the total polling was a tad more than 93%.

The spokesperson added that Boxanagar assembly constituency in southern Tripura bordering Bangladesh recorded the highest voting of 95.12% while Town Bordowali constituency in state capital Agartala had the lowest of 84%.

Chief minister Manik Sarkar’s constituency Dhanpur, also bordering Bangladesh, had a turnout of 95.03%.
