Two persons were arrested on Thursday for killing a 22-year-old polytechnic student at Rewari town on March 16.

The arrested were among five persons booked for the murder that had taken place at Gokalgarh village under the Rohrai police station here.

The deceased, identified as Jagat Singh and a resident of Gokalgarh village in Rewari district, was found murdered by police on March 16.

A police official said: “Those arrested have been identified as Naveen, 21, and Vishal, 22. Both of them belonged to Uttam Nagar in New Delhi and had come to Rewari with three others to loot an ATM machine.”

It is alleged that one of the accused were known to the victim and had reached the victim's place on March 16. As the accused and the victim consumed alcohol on the outskirts of the village, the accused told the victim about the ATM robbery and asked him to join them. As the victim denied, one of the accused opened fire at him with a country-made revolver, leading to the victim's death.

Rohrai station house officer (SHO) Rattan Kumar said: “We have recovered two pistols and live cartridges from the possession of those arrested and efforts are being made to arrest the other three accused.”
