Expatriates living in Gurgaon need not wait for one-and-a-half-months to get their visa extended. From now onwards, their applications will not be sent to the home department in Chandigarh and will be processed locally within two weeks. The decision was taken during a meeting with  visiting Haryana home secretary Samir Mathur at the Foreign Registration Office (FRO).

The FRO will be connected to the passport branch of the Chandigarh-based home department through the internet.
Several issues related to the quality of service given to expats who are in India on employment, business and medical visa were raised during the meeting.

Anil Rao, joint commissioner of police, who attended the meeting, said, “There was a delay in receiving visa verification and in visa extension cases.”
