A major fire broke out in a retail chain, Vishal Mega Mart, located in Sector 14, Gurgaon on Thursday morning. The complex was closed and there was no one inside at the time of the incident. Vikas Baweja, an executive with a security company next door, saw the smoke and informed
authorities. It took the fire department officials 12 fire tenders, one snorkel and three hours to douse the blaze. Goods worth lakhs were gutted in the blaze.

According to fire department officials, the cause of fire is being investigated. Prima facie, it seemed to be the fallout of a short circuit in one of the refrigerators. Police are looking into the matter. "We have sent a forensic team to the spot, as it could also be sabotage," said Gurgaon police commissioner S S Deswal.

"We got a call at 8.49 am. We entered the building from two sides using the hydraulic platform. The fire took place in the food counter on the ground floor, where large refrigerators were kept," said H S Sihag, Chief Fire Officer of Gurgaon. Fire department sources said increase in temperature inside the building could be the reason of the fire. No one was hurt in the incident.
