A gang of monkeys has unnerved the residents of South City-1 for the past few days. Recently, a monkey bit around half-a-dozen people in the area and many are afraid to move out of their homes. The residents of this upscale locality have been confronting a gang of 13-15 monkeys that strikes every
two months. Last time it was seen in February.

"One gardener has been bitten without any provocation. Similarly a few more residents of South City-1 have fallen prey to monkey menace," said a local veterinary surgeon, Dr Sarabjit Singh Jaswal. He said, "Monkeys are the transmitters of rabies and tetanus."

Rakesh Sharma, president of South City residents' welfare association (RWA) said: "We have been suffering from the monkey menace for last five years. Around a dozen monkeys come in this locality every year around this time and they create a stir around. We even approached the developer of South City and government officials but to no avail. This time it's only one monkey who is creating a ruckus and has bitten several residents."
