The minister said while the ordinance was initially issued only for Panchkula, the state government had "given a gift to the people of the state" by implementing it across the state.

"The ordinance aims to provide adequate quantity of qualitative food items to people at affordable prices so they can lead their life with dignity," he added. Saying that nearly eight lakh people in the district would benefit from the scheme, an official claimed that a five-member committee would soon be constituted to prevent irregularities in its implementation, and to maintain transparency.
