A team of Patiala police raided the house of a prominent business family of the city on Sunday night.
The father-son duo Prithi Singh and Pradipt Chaudhry are wanted by the Punjab police in connection to a drug haul last week.
The police had recovered 180-kg of banned narcotic Parvon Spas from two pharmaceutical units owned by the family here.
Bikramjeet Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of Banur, Patiala told Hindustan Times on Monday that despite arrest warrants, both accused were evading arrests.
"We searched the accused house at Sector 9 but both were not there. We have asked the Chaudhary family to tell the Prithi and Pradipt to appear before the Patiala police at the earliest," said Singh.
Punjab police suspect that the Karnal firms had a large role in supplying synthetic drugs at various parts of the region and they were manufacturing these drugs even as the Center had imposed a complete ban on it.
Following media reports, on Saturday the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sealed three licensed pharma units owned by the accused in the city.
Rakesh Gupta, FDA commissioner said that his office had yet to get any official input from Patiala police on the recovery of banned substances from the Karnal factories.
"We are maintaining a watch on the case as it very serious in nature. FDA is ready to give full support to the investigators and we will ensure that guilty get punitive action," said Gupta.
He said that it was also being looked into if the accused had any shady past in the pharmaceutical manufacturing business.
Meanwhile, the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Patiala, HS Mann said that the police had not concealed any fact in the case and all names would be made public whose involvement was proved during the investigation in the drug racket.
The accused are known for their family relations with the politically influential individuals of Haryana and have a strong clout in the bureaucratic circles particularly, the top ranking police officials in the state.
