The Haryana state election commission (SEC) will provide detailed printed voter slips to all electors at their doorsteps for the forthcoming municipal corporation (MC) elections in the state.
Booth-level officers (BLOs) concerned have been tasked to deliver the slips to more than 17 lakh voters in Karnal, Panipat, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Rohtak, Panchkula and Hisar - the cities that go to polls on June 2.
“The decision to provide voter slips at electors' doorsteps is to ensure that no political party or a candidate can influence them,” Karnal deputy commission (DC) and district elector officer (DEO) Renu S Phulia said on Friday. Earlier, political outfits used to distribute voter slips, carrying party symbols of candidates, near the polling booths to influence the voters at the last minute, she said.
“The process to print the slips is underway and they will be delivered by next Thursday,” Phulia said. The DEOs in other districts have instructed the local MC officials to distribute printed voter slips soon.
Meanwhile, the DEOs started to assess the expenditure of candidates from Thursday, the last day of withdrawing nominations.
Panipat DC and DEO Sameer Pal Srow said a candidate was entitled to spend Rs 1.75 lakh in elections. “It is mandatory for the contestants to submit details of their election-related expenses to the district excise and taxation commissioner daily.”
He asked candidates to adhere to the model code of conduct strictly, failing which legal action would be initiated against them.
