"SI Jai Singh, who was on duty, has been arrested," said Bhupender Sharma, a vigilance team inspector.

Singh had allegedly sought bribe from Dalbir Singh, a resident of ward no 6 in Ellenabad, to clear him of charges in an assault case registered on June 28.

Dalbir Singh said the SI had demanded bribe of Rs. 10,000 to settle the case and he had paid Rs. 5,000 a few some days ago.

"Jai Singh had pressurised Dalbir for more money. In the meantime, he lodged a complaint with the Sirsa superintended of police," Sharma said.

SP Saurabh Singh handed over the case to the Hisar vigilance bureau.

The vigilance cell sleuths had arrested Jai Singh on Tuesday after he was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe and the money was recovered from his possession.
