State approves R329 crore for construction of EWS houses

The Haryana government has approved Rs 329 crore for construction of 8,799 houses for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the society at different places in the state.

An official spokesperson said on Tuesday that the state Housing Board had already called for registration of 10,215 eligible applicants as part of project for construction of 50,000 houses in the urban areas. The housing board intended to spend more than Rs 1,000 crore on the construction of these houses, he said.

He said 50,000 houses would be constructed by the state Housing Board, as houses by the urban local bodies department and 50,000 houses by the town and country planning department through private developers.

Thus, total 1.5 lakh houses would be constructed for the EWS and for low income group persons in the state till next year.

The average cost per house would be of Rs 4.40 lakh per unit consisting of two rooms, kitchen and toilet with covered area of 300 sq ft over a plot area of 60 square yard. The land on which these houses would be constructed is highly subsidised, he said and added that the land had been provided by the private developers to the board.
