Nearly two weeks after the alleged suicide of a teenaged girl here, recovery of a suicide note that purportedly carries names of the abettors has added fuel to the charge of police inaction.

The parents of Priyanka, who died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance on December 13, are seeking justice, though the real carriers of the protest are student outfits. Children from 10 local schools have joined hands and started a signature campaign to seek a thorough inquiry into who and what drove Priyanka to suicide.

The Himachal chapter president of Students' Federation of India (SFI), Kapil Bhardwaj said on Wednesday that the suicide note had been recovered and handed over to the police. "Those who made the girl kill herself are named in the note. If the police fail to initiate action, we will make it public on Friday and start a massive agitation," he said.

Bhardwaj further alleged that the police had refused to register a first-information report (FIR) on the day of the suicide, and finally lodged a case on December 18 only after being pressed by the girl's relatives. "The police have also directed the parents not to take up the case in the media."

When efforts were made to contact Priyanka's parents, they declined a detailed comment, only saying that they wanted justice.
