The stage has been set for the elections of directors of the Kangra Central Co-operative Bank (KCCB) from Hamirpur and Nadaun wards of the district, with the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers on Thursday.

Four candidates will contest from Hamirpur, while members of various co-operatives will choose between three candidates in Nadaun, officials said.

Polls will be held on September 7 and results would be announced on the same evening, they added.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is presenting a joint front in Hamirpur by fielding one candidate, the decision of the Congress to put three candidates in the fray, all of whom are grassroots members and are claiming the support of the top leadership of the party, has raised questions about its strategy.

The BJP has fielded its sitting member Rasil Singh Mankotia, while candidates from the Congress, include former MLA Kuldip Singh Pathania, KCCB's former deputy general manager HR Pathania and Sujanpur nagar panchayat president Manoj Kumar.

In Nadaun, the candidates, include Babu Ram Mandyal, senior leader of Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP) and former KCCB chairman; sitting BJP candidate Jaid Nath Sharma; and Congress' Atma Parkash Sharma, who is a close associate of state Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

There are 284 voters in both wards of the Hamirpur district, of which 145 are in Hamirpur ward and 139 in Nadaun ward.
