Militants trigger blast near TMC candidate's house

Militants on Monday exploded a bomb near the house of a Trinamool Congress candidate in Naharup area while an explosive was seized from the residence of another party candidate in Thangmeiband but no was injured, officials said.

Militants set off the bomb at around 11.30am when TC
candidate for Kshetrigao Assembly seat in Imphal East district, P Premanand was hoisting the party flag at his residence ahead of the January 28 polls, they said.

No one was injured, they said, adding the militants fled before police arrived. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

In the second incident, a powerful bomb was recovered near the house of TC candidate of Thangmeiband Assembly constituency in Imphal West district, Joy Kishan but it did not explode.

Police removed the bomb at around 12.30pm, the officials said, adding investigations were on.

On January 2, militants had exploded a bomb at the house of Joy Kishan in which seven persons were injured.

Kishan is contesting against NCP leader and former chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam.

Militant outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) had earlier claimed responsibility for the explosion at Kishan's residence on January 2.
