A day before the Raksha Bandhan festival, 25 people, including 20 policemen, were injured in a communal clash in Chandan Nagar area of Indore on Tuesday. Curfew was clamped and 35 people detained after the clash in which at least two vehicles were torched and others damaged.

Trouble started in the morning when a carcass of a cow was found by the side of a nullah in Ambar Nagar.

As news spread, a large number of people gathered and demanded action against those responsible. They blocked traffic, but lifted it following police intervention.

But as the crowd began to disperse, they were reportedly pelted with stones. When the police tried to enter the lanes, they too were attacked.

Police used tear gas shells and then fired at the mob to control rioting, but when the situation did not improve, a curfew was clamped.
