An intruder was reportedly killed by alert Indian troops in Nowshera tehsil in the district. Identified as Mohammad Maqsood, a resident of Nali village of Bhimber district in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, allegedly tried to enter the Indian territory from the Pokhra border post in the Kalal area about 4.30pm on Sunday.
Maqsood was asked to stop by soldiers manning the border post but he started to run backwards towards the PoK side and they opened fire at him.
The fire was reportedly retaliated from the other side for a few minutes and after that it stopped.
On Monday morning, the body of Maqsood was recovered and Rs 2,050 in Pakistan currency, about 29 small papers carrying telephone numbers and message written in urdu language and an identity card was recovered from his possession.
"It can't be denied that the intruder was an ISI agent or a guide of the militant who was in the area to identify possible infiltration route," said an army officer.
The body was brought to the sub-district hospital at Noushera for legal formalities and postmortem. "The body will be kept in the hospital for one or two days to be handed over to Pakistan authorities if they agree to take in a flag meeting," said Noushera ASP Purshotam Sharma. A case has been registered in the police station.
