A soldier of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) allegedly committed suicide with his service rifle in a camp in Uri in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said Tula Shanker of 34 RR shot himself with his service weapon in a camp at Baoniyar Uri.

Other soldiers rushed to the area and found him in a  pool of blood, they said, adding he died on the spot.

It was not immediately clear why he had taken this extreme step. Police had registered a case and initiated proceedings.

Despite introducing activities such as Yoga and Art of Living, security forces engaged in anti-insurgency operations are still taking the extreme step in the valley.

The sources said security forces had been committing suicide due to domestic problems.
