26 students die as bus plunges into river

At least 26 students of a teacher training college were killed after a bus carrying them plunged 60 feet deep into a river near Sawai Madhopur, 180 km west of Jaipur, early on Monday. The students were from the Mother India Teacher Training College in Khanpur tehsil of Jhalawar district.
They were returning from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. A total of 58 people including 51 students and seven staff were on the bus.

According to initial reports, the bus rammed into a stationary vehicle on a bridge, broke the barrier of the bridge and fell into the river.

Superintendent of Police, Sawai Madhopur Vikas Kumar told HT that all the bodies had been recovered. We used cranes and JCBs to recover the bodies. We have 26 dead bodies at the government hospital in Sawai Madhopur. There are unconfirmed reports that 2 of the injured who were taken to Kota have died.

Of the injured, 10 men and four woman students were admitted at the Maharao Bhim Singh Hospital in Kota.

Chandra Prakash, a student who was slightly injured in the accident, said they had left five days back for a trip to Haridwar where the Mahakumbh is on, Mathura and Vrindavan. They were returning from Vrindavan when the accident happened.
