Five hearing and speech impaired girls were allegedly raped and beaten up by staff of a residential school run by an NGO in the Kanota area of Jaipur. The victims are all orphans aged between 12 and 17 years.

Jaipur police arrested five employees of the NGO in connection with the case.

According to the chairman of the Child Welfare Committee (Jaipur), Prakash Bairwa, the girls had approached the school authorities, but no one had paid attention to their grievances.

Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Mamta Sharma said the license of the NGO has been cancelled and the girls have been kept in a secure environment.

Meanwhile in Bhopal, a teenage girl was set on fire on Saturday by the father of the youth who had allegedly molested her for daring to register a complaint with the police.

The girl, 15, who belongs to a Dalit family had been molested by a 17-year-old youth on Thursday. But, once she escaped from his clutches she told her parents and lodged an FIR. The accused was arrested and later remanded in judicial custody.
