Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said on Friday godman Asaram was spoiling his credibility by making loose statements.
“Society respects spiritual leaders. They inspire people, educate society and instil values … so they should be cautious about what they say,” Gehlot told reporters.
He said Asaram was talking without thinking. “Spiritual leaders are followed by thousands of people, so they should think 50 times before saying a word. “What message are they sending to society if they make such loose remarks?” he asked.
Asaram had on Thursday accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, without naming them, for getting him framed in the sexual assault controversy.
Gehlot also accused the BJP of adopting double standards on the issue. “BJP has come in support of Asaram. If an allegation has been levelled against him, police should be allowed to do its job. We want that if he is guilty, he should be punished,” he said.
