An assistant sub-inspector of police was arrested in Rajasthan's Sikar district for allegedly running a pickpocket racket.

ASI Tara Chand, posted at Police Lines (Jaipur Rural), was arrested on Saturday from the premises of famous Khatu Shyam ji temple while pickpocketing, police said on Monday.

"During preliminary investigation, involvement of one Savitri Bawariya also came to light. Both were running a pickpocket racket," Khatu police station SHO Ravindra said.

Savitri is a Congress councillor and resides in Kotputali town.

"We came to know that Savitri was also there with Chand but she managed to escape...We have seized a vehicle of Savitri and recovered her Identity card from it," the SHO said.

Meanwhile, Savitri rejected the allegation and said she is ready for any fair investigation.

"It is a conspiracy of police to tarnish my image. I had allowed my driver to take the vehicle because Chand was known to me and he said he required the vehicle due to some personal engagement," she said.
