In a case of honour killing, a man in Rajsamand district in the southern part of Rajasthan beheaded his 20-year-old daughter with a sword.

He was sent to one-day police remand on Monday.

“Omkar Singh confessed to his crime and the murder weapon has been recovered. He has been arrested for murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and will be produced before the magistrate on Tuesday,” said Rahul Katkey, superintendent of police, Rajasamand.

Singh told police that ever since his daughter Manju’s marriage ended three years ago, she had been staying with him and his wife. Of late, Singh had come to suspect that she was involved in multiple affairs.

“I had warned her to mend her ways. I could not bear the taunts of the villagers. But she did not listen to me, so I had to take the extreme step," Singh reportedly told police.

On Sunday evening, Singh beheaded Manju when there was no one but the two of them at home. Singh was wandering through the village flaunting the severed head when fellow villagers caught him and took him to the police station.
