In a first, Rajasthan assembly on Thursday passed a resolution sentencing police inspector Ratna Gupta to 30 days in prison for misbehaving with some legislators.

Gupta cannot appeal against the Assembly order in the high court or Supreme Court and will have to go to prison.

Speaker Deependra Singh Shekhawat also summoned director general of police Harish Chandra Meena, former Jaipur commissioner BL Soni, chief secretary CK Mathew and additional chief secretary (home) Ashok Sampatram to the assembly.

Some members of the assembly’s Women and Child Development Committee had complained Gupta misbehaved with them when they visited Gandhi Nagar Police Station for a surprise inspection on July 19, 2010. Gupta was in charge of the station then.

Last year, the assembly’s Committee on Privileges summoned Gupta four times to the House, but she challenged the notices in the high court. On October 12 last year, the assembly had asked the police to arrest her and produce her in the assembly.
