Bunking classes to play cricket might be every boy’s dream, but it has cost MS Dhoni a college degree.

The Indian cricket captain, who registered with St Xavier’s College in 2007 for a two-year vocational course in office management and secretarial practice, failed to attend a single class or take any examinations.

Ultimately, the college, which renewed his registration five times, had no choice but to deny him the degree.

“Anybody can complete a vocational course. The subject Dhoni opted for is the easiest in the academic structure,” said college principal Nicholas Tete. St Xavier’s — an autonomous college of Ranchi University — had its graduation ceremony on Monday.

Tete added that the college bent attendance rules and even sent study material to the cricketer free of cost, but to no avail.

Keeping in mind the skipper’s hectic travelling schedule, the 31-year-old was also given the option to select other venues where he could sit for exams. “But Dhoni did not apply for examinations,” the principal said. “His absence at the graduation ceremony says a lot.”
