Security along Jharkhand-Chhatisgarh border tightened

In the wake of the abduction of the Sukma district collector, security along the Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh border has been tightened and government officials posted in Palamau division have been asked not to move without security in Maoist-hit areas.


"Security on the border has been tightened with strict frisking of vehicles being carried out in Palamau, Garhwa and Latehar districts," Inspector General of Police (Palamau Range) Deepak Verma said on Thursday.

Vigil has been stepped up in the wake of Sukma district Collector Alex Paul Menon’s abduction by the Maoists in neighbouring Chhattisgarh on April 21.

The security has been tightened keeping the past incidents in mind when the rebels used to cross over the border after perpetrating crime in neighbouring states, he said.

Adequate security personnel have been deployed along the border, he said.

Palamau Deputy Commissioner Puja Singhal, meanwhile, convened a meeting and issued directions to the government officials working in the district to avoid venturing out at night, according to official sources.

Even during visiting any area during the day, she asked the officials to take adequate security along with them, the sources said.
