Ten Maoists, including a top commander, were killed in a gun fight between Maoists and a rival splinter outfit, Tritya Prastuti Committee (TPC), in Jharkhand early on Thursday. One TPC member was also killed and two injured in the incident, said sources.

Chatra Superintendent of police (SP), Anup Birthray, confirmed the clash and the recovery of 10 bodies of rebels from the Lakramanda Jungle in Chatra district, around 250 km north of Ranchi.

“Our team was combing in the area to nab the rebels from both the outfits when the incident happened,” said Birthray.

Slain CPI-Maoist commander of Bihar regional committee, Lalesh Yadav alias Prashantji, zonal commander Dharmendar Yadav and sub-zonal commanders Praful Yadav and Jai Kumar were the most notorious commanders of the banned leftwing extremist outfit in Jharkhand and Bihar.

TPC platoon commander Ajayji claimed 15 Maoists were killed in the encounter. “They opened fire at our troop of 25 members patrolling the area.”
