In a Jharkhand village, a young married woman became the victim of an acid attack after she refused to have sex with two men. The incident occurred on Sunday at Bagdehri, Jamtara district, 320km from Ranchi.

The woman had gone to Bagdehri to visit her parents, said a police officer. The men, who caught her alone outdoors, threatened to disfigure her with acid, which they were apparently carrying. When she raised an alarm, they fled. But before going, they sprayed her with the acid.

“She has suffered minor burns on neck and hands,” said Sunil Bhaskhar, Superintendent of police, Jamtara. Hunt is on for the accused, who have fled to West Bengal.
