Amway offices were raided at nine places on Saturday, after police registered a case of cheating against the company in three districts.

"The raids were conducted at nine places, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Palakkad in Kerala," Wynad superintendent of police P Jayanath said.

Cases had been registered against Amway at Kannur, Wynad, and Thrissur districts following complaints of cheating.

Meanwhile, Amway in a statement said the police action has come as 'rude shock' and surprise. A fair investigation demands that the company be notified about the nature of complaint received for such a sweeping inquiry, it said.

Amway stated that it had been receiving complaints from distributors over the past one month that they were being called to police stations and being 'harrassed' to give complaints against the company. This is another step in the direction of 'high handedness' of some police officials, it said.

Amway India commenced commercial operations in May 1998. The company said it offers 100 per cent money back guarantee for its products and business opportunity.

There is no element of cheating in its operations, it said.

The Ernakulam Press Club also registered a complaint against Amway after a photographer and reporter of Malayalam newspaper 'Thejus' were reportedly prevented from taking photographs of the police action.
