After Mars, our next destination should be asteroids and comets. This was stated by Dr JN Goswami, Chandrayaan-1 mission principal scientist and Physical Research Laboratory director.

“From a scientific perspective, we must understand the early solar system. We must go to asteroids and comets."

"Chandrayaan-1 was a classic example of international collaborations in space explorations. Maintaining that preparations were under way on the Mars Mission, he said: “If India misses the 2013 slot and depends on PSLV, then the next slot can come only if 2018.”

On whether it could be proved that life existed on Mars, he said we can't. "Life is something different. It is not molecular methane so even if we find methane or water on Mars, this will not prove that life existed.  "We have to actually find life to claim that life existed on Mars."
