Army team at Sainthia to help in rescue efforts

The Army on Monday sent a 167-member team of doctors, engineers and technical specialists to help rescue operations at Sainthia where two express trains collided leaving 50 dead. Defence sources here said that a team of seven Army officers and 170 jawans left for the site
following a request from the West Bengal and railway administrations.

They said the team comprising doctors, engineers and metal cutting specialists, sourced from the Army stations at Panagarh and Kanchrapara, are carrying medical and technical equipment.

Meanwhile, the Air Force has kept one Mi-17 helicopter on standby each at its Barrackpore and Kalaikunda stations.
