A day after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee took a dig at PM Manmohan Singh, mimicking him and saying he was not in touch with the grassroots, the state Congress said she has crossed all bounds of decency.

On Thursday, the Banerjee government became the country's first to move a resolution in the assembly opposing FDI in multi-brand retail — one of the issues over which she had split with the UPA government. She said she hoped it would prompt other states to follow suit and force the Centre to withdraw the decision.

On Wednesday, during a television interview, Banerjee was asked if she had been consulted about FDI in retail. In reply, she mimicked Singh.

"She has crossed all forms of decency. This was not expected from a chief minister, or for that matter, from anyone. She does not even care for political courtesy," said Pradip Bhattacharya, president of West Bengal Pradesh Congress committee.
